Scanner carriage position fault
Canon E202 usually indicates a scanner carriage position fault: the carriage cannot find its home position or is obstructed while moving.
What does this error mean?
The fault may be caused by an obstruction in the carriage’s path or a faulty sensor. Some models also have a scanner transport lock: check that it is released if the printer has recently been moved.
What can you safely try?
- 01Check that the scanner transport lock is released, if your model has one.
- 02Wipe the scanner glass and narrow glass strip with a soft cloth.
- 03Switch the printer off at the main power switch, wait a few minutes, then switch it back on. Some temporary faults clear this way.

If the code returns, call a technician to check the scanner assembly.
