HP 10.XX.YY error code

Supply memory (chip) fault

The HP 10 error family usually indicates a failure to read the memory chip in a toner cartridge or other supply: the printer cannot identify the supply.

What does this error mean?

Every HP supply has a chip from which the printer reads its type and level. An incorrectly inserted cartridge, damaged chip or supply that does not match the printer can cause the fault.

What can you safely try?

  1. 01Remove and reinsert the affected cartridge to make sure it is properly seated.
  2. 02Check that the supply is the correct type for your exact model family.
  3. 03Switch the printer off at the main power switch, wait a few minutes, then switch it back on. Some temporary faults clear this way.

When should you call a technician?

If the fault remains even with a genuine supply of the correct type, call a technician: the reader contacts or control system may be faulty.

Do you rent out or manage printers?

If you manage the printer at a customer’s site, you can record the fault on site in PrinterMS using QR issue reporting, and any parts used are automatically added to its service history. See printer fleet management.
