HP 50.X error code
Fuser fault
The HP 50 error family, including 50.1, 50.2 and 50.3, indicates a fuser fault: the temperature is too low or too high, or warm-up fails. The exact subcode points to the cause, but the affected subsystem is always the fuser.
What does this error mean?
50.1 typically indicates a low temperature, 50.2 a warm-up fault, 50.3 an excessive temperature, and 50.4 a power supply problem, often on printers connected through an uninterruptible power supply. HP recommends leaving the printer switched off for at least 25 minutes after the fault to reset the fuser state.
What can you safely try?
- 01Switch the printer off and leave it off for at least 25 minutes, then switch it back on.
- 02Do not run the printer through an uninterruptible power supply, extension lead or power strip: try plugging it directly into a wall socket.
When should you call a technician?
If the code returns, call a technician: the fuser assembly needs checking or replacement.
Do you rent out or manage printers?
If you manage the printer at a customer’s site, you can record the fault on site in PrinterMS using QR issue reporting, and any parts used are automatically added to its service history. See printer fleet management.
