HP 13.XX.YY error code

Paper jam

The HP 13 error family indicates a paper jam: paper did not reach a sensor in time or became stuck there. The subcode identifies the section of the paper path where the jam occurred.

What does this error mean?

Repeated error 13 jams in the same location are often caused by a worn roller, a scrap left in the paper path or unsuitable paper. Paper quality and storage conditions, including moisture, also matter.

What can you safely try?

  1. 01Open the doors and covers and carefully remove all jammed paper from the paper path, including small scraps. The area around the fuser may be hot; wait a few minutes there.
  2. 02Remove the paper from the tray, fan it and check that the guides are set precisely to the paper size.

When should you call a technician?

If the jam regularly occurs in the same place, call a technician: the rollers or sensors may need replacing.

Do you rent out or manage printers?

If you manage the printer at a customer’s site, you can record the fault on site in PrinterMS using QR issue reporting, and any parts used are automatically added to its service history. See printer fleet management.
